Chem Chem Lodge sundowners on Lake Manyara
The THREE main regions to consider in Tanzania are:
ahhhh, the Serengeti... distant horizon lines, big skies and endless plains accentuated by flat-topped acacia trees. Home to the largest herds on the planet and Africa’s highest concentration of predators, the Serengeti is probably THE most celebrated game reserve in the world. It's difficult to predict the exact timing and route of the Great Migration path as herd movement depend so much on weather patterns. Not to mention the unpredictable wildebeest! But with the wildebeest’s constant search for food and water, the 'general' migration route rotates through the eastern Serengeti (nov-dec) and into the wet south where almost 400 000 wildebeest calves are born around late January to mid-March. From April onwards the migration moves up through the western Serengeti, passing the Grumeti around May/June and onward to the drier plains of the north between July and August when jostling herds famously splash their way across the Mara River into Kenya's Masaai Mara... pouncing and kicking as they fight for survival. And the worst part - on their return to Tanzania (sep/oct), it's river crossing time all over again! Important to mention though, seasoned travellers claim that even if you removed the Great Migration from the picture, you still will NOT be disappointed...

Consider a 2night stop-over at the Ngorongoro Crater
Sometimes called the eight wonder of the world, the Ngorongoro Crater is indisputably home to the highest density of big game in Africa including lions, leopards, hyena’s, baboons, large flocks of crowned cranes, black/white rhinos and some of Africa’s largest tusker elephants! The crater, a perfect caldera, forms a natural bowl with a diameter of approximately 18 kilometres and features an astonishing variety of landscapes – from misty forests and rocky mountain peaks to wide open plains, valleys, rivers and an alkaline lake filled with flamingoes. And sharing the abundant grazing grounds and groundwater on the crater floor with approximately 25000 wild animals, are members of the noble Maasai tribe who can be seen grazing their sheep and cattle all over. The only place on earth where mankind and wild animals co-exist in harmony. Listed below, our 2 favourite places: from simply divine and luxurious... to affordable excellence
