holiday accommodation Cape Town

Table Mountain Cape Town seen across a turquoise ocean with crashing surf

Crashing surf... sandy beaches...

  • With a looming Table Mountain ever guarding over this beautiful city, Cape Town sits dramatically tucked between mountain and oceans at the southern tip of afriKa.
  • Extraordinary natural beauty awaits visitors to this fun and casual city where soft white sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, smashing surf and sensational sunsets are part of everyday life.
  • Add to that a vibrant night life culture that will have you dancing on the table till the wee hours and soon you, too, will be taking a vow to return....
  • We suggest starting your outinafrica holiday in Cape Town - and ending it with a 3 to 4night safari

  • For those on a travel budget, SAVE money in Cape Town & spend MORE on the big game safari
  • Cape Town is a 2hr flight from Johannesburg and a 2.5hr flight from Kruger Park.

  • two FULL DAY tours to consider - guided or self drive

    1
Drive from the city along the N2 freeway and bear right onto the M3 freeway at the foot of Devil's Peak. You will be passing the turn off to Kirstenbosch Gardens and onwards, pass Constantia and Tokai, to the end of the freeway. Turn left at lights and right at next set of lights. Soon after, turn right onto BOYES DRIVE (stick to the speed limit!) for panoramic views across False Bay (Indian Ocean side) and surfers' paradise, Muizenberg, below. At the T-junction traffic light at the end of Boyes Drive, see the Kalk Bay harbour ahead and turn right. Continue along this scenic and winding coastal road and follow signs to Simon's Town. Just before exiting Simon's Town, look out for the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony parking area on the left - from where you walk pass a variety of artefact stalls to the reserve's entry gates. After the penguins, head further south to spectacular Cape Point itself and RETURN to the city via Scarborough, Misty Cliffs (surfers' paradise), Kommetjie, Noordhoek and it's Farm Village. From here cross over the hair raising (toll gated) Chapman's Peak Drive before stopping for a late afternoon seafood lunch - on the airy verandah of the Chapman's Peak Hotel - on the right as you enter the village of Hout Bay. From here it's an easy 25minute and very scenic coastal drive, pass glamorous Llandudno (sensational beach) and through Camps Bay, back into Cape Town - literally a day trip right around Table Mountain! And as a bonus - from July to November this route also offers whale watching along the way!

    2
Guided day tours to the winelands are available but, as it has SO much to offer, we DO suggest renting a car for an easy 1hour self drive trip into the winelands and staying in Franschhoek for 2-3nights. Most importantly, pre-book all your favourite restaurants WELL IN ADVANCE as the winelands has now perfected the art of the elegantly shaded garden lunch. In spectacular surrounds - with distant views - and fabulous food. Once dinner/lunch reservations are done, you'll be free to explore the beautiful valleys and visit a few of the many wine tasting estates dotted around a mosaic of vineyard landscapes - mostly backed by dramatic mountain ranges. From an astonishing Motor Museum to a breathtaking vegetable garden, from picking your own strawberries in season to the quirkiest of art galleries, shops, cafe bars and farm stalls. For a listing of our favourite wineland estates, restaurants and places to visit, scroll down our WINELANDS page.
